We arrived Thursday afternoon and I realized that I forgot to pack my much needed bike shoes. Anyway we decided to go for a bike ride through the national park. The temperatures exceeded 90 degrees but the ride was beautiful.
The following day we woke up early to avoid the heat and went for a long run through the desert. Yes, literally through the desert. The run involved dodging cacti, scrambling, and climbing. After the run we decided to rest and stay in the shade until it cooled off. We sat around doing homework, playing guitar and throwing horseshoes. In the afternoon we went for a short roller ski. I had just mounted up my classic roller skis and thought that it would be a good time to bust them out (I had not classic roller skied in 5 years)! I was rusty to say the least and hopefully the guys weren't too embarrassed being seen with me.
On Saturday, we decided to go for a long bike ride towards the town of Boulder City, UT. Luckily there was a little cloud cover so it wasn't as hot as the previous days. The ride went up and over a pass and then dropped down into Boulder City. Tyler and I turned back at the top of the pass because we didn't want to go over on our training hours for the week. That night we got bored and started looking around Tyler's cabin for stuff to do. We ended up finding a motor bike in the shed and some how came to an agreement to take it for a spin. We rode up and down the road for about an hour and soon decided we better quit while we are ahead and not get hurt. All in all, the trip was a blast. I can't wait to go back.
The team is now entering the biggest block of training for the summer. This is a time where we cut back on the jumping and start building up our endurance base. I went for a long mountain bike ride yesterday with Tyler and Adam as well as a long roller ski /run on Monday. We had one jump session today on the HS100. It was my first big hill jumps of the summer and I was happy to have a couple good jumps.
I will keep you posted during these upcoming weeks!
